Position Summary:


The Sonographer is a non-exempt position reporting to the Imaging Director. Under the general guidance of physicians and providers, the Sonographer performs a variety of diagnostic ultrasonographic procedures. The Sonographer receives patients, explains the procedure, and ensures patient comfort throughout the process. This role provides patient services to all age groups using imaging modalities and operates ultrasound equipment to perform clinical diagnostic exams and routine invasive procedures according to established standards and practices.
In addition, the Sonographer is responsible for maintaining equipment and supplies, organizing the work area, and ensuring accurate record-keeping. The Sonographer assists with scheduling ultrasound procedures and ensures smooth patient flow. The position requires reviewing the physician's requisition for completeness and referring any questions to the ultrasound physician before performing the procedure. The Sonographer also assists the radiologist or referring physician in invasive procedures, following sterile techniques and infection control guidelines.
The Sonographer must recognize and interpret the significance of all structures visualized on the monitor, differentiating between artifacts and anatomic or pathologic structures within the equipment’s limitations. A strong understanding of anatomy and physiology, technical expertise, and the ability to enhance standard procedures to improve diagnostic results are essential for this role.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree required
  • Graduate of approved program of Ultrasound/Sonography or equivalent
  • ARDMS Registered or, if new graduate, must be ARDMS-Eligible and pass a test in at least one area (i.e. Abdomen, OBGYN) including physics within one year of employment. 
  • State license required to practice as a Sonographer
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
