What you will do in this role:

  • Enters appropriate ICD-CM/PCS codes into the patient information system using codes obtained from the current encoder system
  • Finalizes abstract status to release codes to Fiscal Services within three to five (3- 5) days of discharges.
  • Assigns corrections for any missing or incomplete documentation preventing final coding
  • Queries physicians when code assignments are not clear or documentation in the record is inadequate for coding purposes, notifying supervisor of any outstanding queries beyond approved timeframe
  • Maintains current department productivity and accuracy standards.

Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree with RHIT, CCS or CCA preferred.
  • Previous coding experience in information management at psychiatric health care facility preferred
  • RHIT, CCS or CCA preferred
  • May be required to work flexible hours and overtime.
