Position Summary

To provide leadership for all phases of the company’s operations, with special emphasis on long-range goals, growth, profit, and return on investment.

Is a member of the executive team and is responsible for leadership and vision for enterprise strategic planning with a focus on quality, patient safety, and value-based programs.

Reports to: Chief Executive Officer

 

Responsibilities of the Position

Quality and patient safety (including culture)

Utilize available information and analyze data to plan, recommend and direct opportunities to evaluate utilization of hospital resources and facilitate Medical Staff changes in practice to achieve expected clinical outcomes and improve organizational financial viability.

Coordinate changes in care based on evidence-based clinical guidelines that support positive outcomes for patients, including physician education and development/revision of standard order sets.

Work closely with Duke in developing quality initiatives to ensure safe patient care.

Regularly meet with CMO of Duke LifePoint to review initiatives and discuss opportunities for improvement.

Actively engaged in antibiotic stewardship program development.

Work with HSC on initiatives relating to medical staff such as surgical consent form and EMTALA form standardization.

Participate in regularly scheduled Duke LifePoint Clinical Engagement meetings.

Clinical insight into strategic planning.

Member of Senior Leadership Team reporting to CEO of hospital with dotted line reporting to CMO of Duke LifePoint as well as CMO of LifePoint Health.

Assist hospital in assuring compliance with standards of regulatory agencies.

Assist with surveys and issues related to The Joint Commission and North Carolina State Health Department.

Work with leadership team in development of new service lines or enhancement of current ones.

Help drive development and growth of GME program at Maria Parham.

Clinical insight into operations (specially to drive efficient patient flow)

Work collaboratively with CEO, Chief Nursing Officer, Chief Financial Officer, and Assistant Administrator keeping them aware of trends, innovations and opportunities that support strategic direction of hospital as they relate to the Medical Staff.

Participate in Executive Patient Safety Rounds with all hospital departments.

Participate in Interdisciplinary Team Rounds as appropriate.

Work with Medical Staff Office to ensure proper and efficient process for provider credentialing and privileging.

Physician alignment and engagement (including support of medical staff governance)

Serve as liaison between Medical Staff, team members, patients, and families.

Advise Medical Staff regarding necessary changes in By-laws and Rules and Regulations.

Facilitate coordination of Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluation (OPPE) and Focused Professional Practice Evaluation (FPPE) programs.

Educate providers regarding disruptive behavior and ensure that any such behavior is addressed timely.

Work with medical staff leaders to help address medical staff issues as they arise.

Assist with recruitment of physicians as appropriate.

Participate in monthly LifePoint Chief Medical Officer conference calls and share appropriate information from calls with medical staff and organization.

Active engagement in all medical staff committees.

Population health strategy and performance (including leadership in DCC)

Active involvement in the leadership of Duke Connected Care ACO and Duke Clinically Integrated Network as they relate to Maria Parham Health.

Actively involved with Duke Connected Care Committees as requested.

Work closely with case management to develop relationships with Duke Connected Care.

Facilitate quality oversight of clinical practices within Physician Services.

Lead the necessary culture change of physicians.

Lead physician development and engagement initiatives.

Spearhead physicians working in integrated teams.

Ensure that physicians take steps to decrease unwanted variation in practice.

Utilization review

Quality and Patient Safety

Medical Staff Services and Credentialing

Oversight of appropriate peer review and continuous performance monitoring and improvement

Partner with medical staff leadership to ensure appropriate evolution of bylaws to meet health delivery, regulatory and accreditation imperatives

Risk management

Oversight of select service lines

Physician practice evaluation

Translate administrative imperatives to the medical staff and provides a clinical perspective to administrative vision and strategy

Program and service line growth and development

Align and coordinate acute care with the rest of the care continuum

Clinical technology acquisition and implementation

Regulatory compliance

Other duties as assigned.


Required Education
Doctor of Medicine

Required Skills

Participates in ongoing quality improvement activities.

Maintains compliance with organization’s policies, as well as established practices, protocols, and procedures of the position, department, and applicable professional standards.

Complies with organizational and regulatory policies for handling confidential patient information.

Demonstrates excellent customer service through his/her attitude and actions, consistent with the standards contained in the Vision, Mission, and Values of the organization.

Adheres to professional standards, hospital policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, and TJC standards and/or standards from other accrediting bodies.

 

Minimum Work Experience

Extensive professional experience requiring ability to communicate effectively as a leader.
